The film Gintama Live Action is lifted from Hideaki Sorachi's hilarious manga story about an eccentric figure named Sakata Gintoki in a fictitious setting similar to the Japanese parallel world of late Edo era. His horrendous acts are famous throughout the world, including Indonesia.

The story in the movie Gintama Live Action follows Benizakura Arc which is spoken in manga volume 11-12, or anime episode series 58-61. Its casting range is studded with popular stars, including actors Shun Oguri and Masaki Suda, who have appeared on many Japanese television and cinema screens, as Sakata Gintoki and Shinpachi Shimura duo. There are also Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura, Tsuyoshi Domoto from KinKi Kids group as Shinsuke Takasugi, as well as Nanao's beautiful model as Matako Kijima.
